FWIW, and I know many don't play this way, but just so everyone knows it IS an option:

I play what I refer to as a clean slate league, i.e. after league creation and before the draft I clear all service times, player histories, league history, etc...

My drafts have always resulted in variant market sizes and fan loyalties and after the first three years, when arbitration comes into play, it's always interesting to watch how the team's payrolls prepare and shape up over the next three as free agency begins to bear down on the meager, but reasonable, salary cap I put in place.
