In PDF format, you can search for the items that you need, and hopefully battists will have mastered the problem of reproducing the hyperlinks in PDF that are so handy (or provide the Word version that is the basis for the manual, protected if preferred, as an alternative - Control + Click will be necessary to activate the links in a Word document but that is better than giving up on them altogether).
Then, you should print only the sections that you really need to keep handy or read away from the game. For me, that is very little; I use Alt + Tab to switch back and forth to the manual while playing the game, and much of the manual is available in-game anyway by pressing F1.

I agree. This is the only really effective way to go. Several years ago I started a thread asking if OOTP could make the manual available for a price (say about $30). They noted that $30 would not even come close to the cost to print & ship it, and of course there would be no hyperlinks (not to mention future updates). You could get a quote from a copy shop, but I believe the cost there would also be prohibitive. If you tried to print it, the cost of the ink and the wear & tear on your printer (or boss's printer) could be significant. Printing that many pages will cause most printers to significantly overheat.
What a PDF manual lacks in portability, it pretty much makes up for in hyperlinks & flexibility.
