Kansas City, Mo.--Eight Baltimore Orioles will headline the 1973 Joy in Mudville All-Star Game.
The Orioles boast the best record in the JIM at 78-20. Four of the Baltimore All-Stars are starting pitchers, including left-hander Ken Holtzman who will take the mound as the AL starter Tuesday at Royals Stadium.
Holtzman (17-4, 2.45), Matlack (18-6, 2.03) is joined by fellow Oriole hurlers Tom Seaver (18-4, 2.12), Nolan Ryan (17-4, 19.3) and Jon Matlack (18-6, 2.03).
Other Orioles earning All-Star status include infielder Bobby Grich and outfielders Amos Otis, Johnny Grubb and Ken Singleton.
The National League squad, winners of the past two All-Star Games, feature seven Houston Astros. Houston is the defending JIM champion and leads the NL West.
Five members of the NL East-leading Pittsburgh Pirates also were named to the team. Right-hander Bob Moose (17-3, 2.16) will start for the Nationals.
Five Texas Rangers made the AL Stars. Texas, leaders of the AL West, is seeking its second straight playoff berth.
The game will be played at Royals Stadium, the new home of the AL's Kansas City franchise. First baseman Dick Allen will represent the Royals in the game. Allen is a three-time All-Star. His previous two Mid-Summer Classic appearances were as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles.
