Opening Day Notes: Cedeno Hits for Cycle
Opening Day 1973 brought a number of thrillls to Joy in Mudville League fans.

Meanwhile, in Atlanta the defending JIM champion Houston Astros set a league record by shellacking the Braves 21-2. Center fielder Cesar Cedeno collected five hits and hit for the cycle.
Pittsburgh right-hander and last season's Cy Young Award winner Dock Ellis tossed a four-hitter as the Pirates downed St. Louis 5-1.
Los Angeles rookie catcher Joe Ferguson homered and right-hander Bill Singer held San Diego to three hits as the Dodgers trimmed the Padres 1-0.
Oakland's Catfish Hunter outdueled Minnesota's Bert Blyleven 1-0.
Reigning American League MVP Dick Allen made his Kansas City debut with a hit and an RBI but the California Angels dropped the Royals 4-2.
Texas cranked out 19 hits in a 12-7 thumping of Chicago. Graig Nettles went 4-for-4 and Rusty Staub had three hits and home run for the Rangers.
Newcomers Steve Garvey and Amos Otis each drove home two runs as Baltimore drilled Milwaukee 6-1.
