Dodgers, Orioles Reach Trade Agreement
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles agreed on a trade Wednesday morning.
Los Angeles sent infielder Steve Garvey to Baltimore for veteran Davey Johnson and Merv Rettenmund.
Garvey hit .290 with five home runs and 39 RBIs in his first full year as a starter. Though the 24-year-old played third base for the Dodgers, Garvey is expected to fill the hole at first base for the Orioles. Earlier this week, Baltimore dealt Dick Allen to Kansas City.
Johnson will likely take over at second for Los Angeles. The 30-year-old hit .247 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs for Baltimore. Johnson was the Most Valuable Player of the American League Championship Series.
Rettenmund, 29, batted .255 with four homers and 24 RBIs in a reserve role for the Orioles last season.
