Mayberry Captures NL Comeback Player of the Year
Houston first baseman John Mayberry won the second annual National League Comeback Player of the Year Award.
After a disappointing and injury-plagued 1971 season, Mayberry rebounded with a 27-home run, 104-RBI campaign. Mayberry hit .295 as Houston breezed to the NL West title.
Mayberry, 23, capped his season by hitting a game-winning home run in game seven of the Joy in Mudville World Series against Baltimore.
