They went 21-1 in the month of July and had a 17 game winning streak where they swept the Boston club in a 4 game series. Pitcher Harry Salisbury was sensational this past month as he had an 11-0 record with a 0.73 ERA including 4 SHUTOUTS, earning him NL Pitcher of the Month honors. For the Beaneaters, they lost their top RBI man in John O'Rourke to a inguinal hernia and had 2B Andy Leonard announce his retirement after this year. Leonard was the primary starter for the Beaneaters from '77-'82. In response, Boston traded him away for a young pitcher.
