It worked pretty well. Some of the players (negro leagues & japan) did well for a few years but dropped off sooner then expected. Some players seem to play for ever. Very few players extended their career by returning to the minors. AAA power was way up, but since players lasted a little longer then in real life, their were some good players there (Steve Balboni hit 415 HR's in the minors at AAA & AA (47), only 8 in part of two seasons in the majors).
I should have turned off Automatic League Stragtegy, so it would have been 4 man pitching staffs for all the years. When it got up to 32 teams it got hard to keep track of everything that was going on.
One of the things that made following the teams & players was to have each league based in a different country. Majors was USA, AAA was Canada , AA was Latin America (including Mexico & Cuba), A was Japan/Australia.
Moonlight Graham never played in the majors (and only 1 full season in the minors)
There were a few players who's best (or most used) season was their last.
(21 players have $15 million contracts or better - Jeter signed a 4 year, $110 million contract IN 2004).
