NLP and Joe Calzaghe sign contract to fight for the IBF Championship in August 1955, against IBF Champion, Jack Dempsey. This will be Calzaghe's first world title shot (and first promotional team to receive world title fight). Calzaghe relinquishes both his CBC and EBU belts.

The EBU will fill the vacant title by having former EBU champion, Vitali Klitschko, Ukraine, 18-4-0 (17) face off against Billy Conn, Ireland, 15-1-0 (7) later this month, June 1955.
