Middleweight Bouts Feb 86

Quincy Taylor 0-0-0-0 vs Whit Green 0-3-0-0

Impressive debut for Taylor, he started nicely dropping Green twice in the third and a vicious hook in the fourth drops Green for the 10 count.

Rafael Gutierrez 0-0-0-0 vs Dale Gilbert 0-4-0-0

Awesome debut for Gutierrez as he stops Gilbert in the second round. A perfect hokk dropped Gilbert for an 8 count and when he rose Gutierrez pummelled him along the ropes until Referee Raul Caiz Sr stopped the bout.

#35 Michael Watson 16-1-0-14 vs #38 John David Jackson 12-0-0-5

Both of these pre-prime boxers are in excellent shape for this 8 rounder. Watson is a 3-2 favorite coming into the bout. Watson comes out quickly and is looking to end it in the first, he lands some heavy blows and hurts Jackson forcing him to cover up for most of the round. Jackson moves to the outside in the second and has a much better round as he lands some nice combos. Hell of a round in the third, both men stand and trade and land some brutal punches. I'm amazed no one is hurt. Jackson is showing some swelling under the right eye as the round concludes. Edge to Jackson in the third. Watson wins the the fourth as he is continuously able to get Jackson along the ropes and do some nice work. Jackson looks to be slowing up as the fifth gets underway but still may have won the fifth. Not much to choose from as the round is pretty close. Both men look tired in the sixth but Jackson definately wins it as he lands some impressive blows and Watson doesn't do to much of anything. Another slow round in the seventh with the edge again to Jackson. Watson just isn't throwing enough punches. The scoring in this one will be interesting as Watson drops Jackson for a three count as the final seconds tick off the clock in the eighth. Scorecards read 76-75 Watson, 76-76 and 76-75 Jackson a draw. Good fight both fighters looked good in their first step up in the level of opponents. Jackson outlanded Watson 174-153. Jackson landed at an accuracy of 60.8 that is impressive.

#7 Bobby"Boogaloo"Watts 25-0-0-14 vs #16 Dwight Davison 16-0-0-14

The prime boxing Watts and pre-prime Slugging Davison are in excellent shape for this 10 rounder. Watts is a 3-2 favorite coming into the bout. Both men will face a tough challenge in this one. Watts wins the first as he uses the ring and easily outboxes Davison. Davison was having a good second round when a Watts counter right had Davison's legs rubbery. Davison covers up and is able to avoid further damage. Davison realizes he isn't fighting no more tomatoe cans. Davison wins the third as he is the busier of the two and landed some nice punches. Very slow fourth as neither man seems to anxious to mix it up, slight edge to Davison. Watts wins the fifth as again he uses the ring to outbox Davison. Davison looks like he's running on empty as the sixth round begins and Watts takes advantage landing some crisp power shots. Watts even lands a flagrant low blow that brings a warning form Steve Smoger. Watts wins the seventh as Davison just isn't doing enough. Watts receives a nast gash over the right eye from ana accidental headbutt early in the round. Watts wins the eighth as he moves outside and easily outboxes the oncharging Davison. Watts wins another round as he is the busier fighter. Davison is complaining of a shoulder injury in the corner. Davison wins the tenth as Watts is content to stay away. Scorecards read 97-93 twice and 98-92 all for the winner by unanimous decision Bobby"Boogaloo"Watts. Davison suffers his first defeat in trying to step up in the level of competition. Good win for Watts who is sure to be in the initial title chase.

#4 Miguel Angel Arroyo 25-1-0-17 vs #11 Alan Minter 19-0-0-14

Both of these prime boxers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Minter is a 2-1 favorite coming into the bout. Minter travels to Argentina to take on Arroyo. Close opening round as both men do some nice work. Minter has to know he must win these rounds big to earn a decision here. Another close round with no clear cut winner. Minter definately wins the third as he lands some great combos, it was a great action round with Arroyo scoring as well just not enough to take the round. Minter is warned for using his elbows inside. Things are heating up as both men trades ome heavy leather with the edge definately in Minter's favor. Close fifth as Minter started good but was rocked late in the round by an Arroyo hook, Arroyo couldn't follow up on the staggered Minter. Arroyo seems to be carrying his arms lower as the sixth round begins. Minter has a good round that is made better when Referee Parris deducts a point from Arroyo for a low blow that didn't land. What a seventh both men stand and trade and Arroyo definately gets the better of it. Great round. Another action round in the eighth as again both men are just trading furiouly. Edge to Minter. Again both men trade heavy blows in the center of the ring. Minter definately gets the better of it and Arroyo is cut by an accidental headbutt. Give Minter credit as he comes out to fight in the tenth and not hope he has the decision won. Arroyo has a good tenth and in my book pulled out the round. Depending on the scoring in the first two rounds this could be interesting even though I feel Minter won the bout. To the scorecards. 98-94 and 96-94 twice for the winner by unanimous decision Alan Minter. Give the judges credit they scored it fairly. Minter outlanded Arroyo 264-228. Great win for Minter and Arroyo suffers his first defeat since his sixth pro fight in which he was disqualified ending a 20 bout win streak.

#3 Don"Caveman"Lee 29-0-0-29 vs #18 Hajime"Animal"Fuji 14-0-3-3

The prime slugging Lee and the pre-prime boxing Fuji are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Lee is heavily favored and should have an easy time in this one. Lee looking to stay busy before the initial title fights are scheduled. Wow that was quicker then even I thought it would end. Lee comes out drops Fuji with the first hook he lands, he rises at the count of eight and is dropped by a left right combo, this time he's up at three and is dropped one more time with another hook and Kenny Bayless waves it off. Impressive showing Lee does as he should against the overmatched challenger.
