I've wondered about this also. If you only have one minor league level, then you are going to have raw rookies competing against almost ready for prime time players. In this case, it seems logical to assume that the raw guys are going to be overmatched against the more seasoned minor leaguers. In turn, it seems logical to assume that this would hurt their development. I don't like to diddle with 5 levels of minors, but I'm afraid of only having one because of the above stated issue. In my current league, I created two levels of minors, AAA and AA, which I call "Senior Minor League" and "Junior Minor League" to try to blunt this effect. I also created a college feeder league, and set the feeder league PCMs to just below AA levels. It's too early to tell if it works because I'm still in the first season. If this thread is still "alive" after I've finished a few seasons, I'll report back.
