Aaron Edges Teammate for NL Most Valuable Player
The inaugural Joy in Mudville National League Most Valuable Player race turned out to be a photo finish.
Atlanta Braves' outfielder Hank Aaron edged teammate Rico Carty by one voting point to take the honor.
Aaron led the National League in home runs (44), runs (102) and RBIs (123). The 36-year-old hit .298.
Carty, 31, led the NL with a .354 average. He hit 24 homers and drove home 97 runs.
The Atlanta duo was closely followed by Pittsburgh All-Star Roberto Clemente, who finished third.
Willie Davis of Los Angeles was fourth. Tony Perez of Cincinnati finished fifth.
Others receiving votes were Willie McCovey of San Francisco, Bobby Tolan of Cincinnati and Billy Williams of Chicago.
