McNally Captures American League Cy Young
Capturing the Joy in Mudville American League Cy Young Award may have been the easiest win of the year for Baltimore left-hander Dave McNally.
The 27-year-old received every first-place vote and outdistanced Vida Blue of Oakland for the honor.
McNally registered a 24-10 record with a 2.90 ERA in 40 starts.
Blue, 19-7 with a 2.77 ERA, finished runner-up.
Boston's Ray Culp was third. Oakland's Al Downing was fourth and New York's Fritz Peterson was fifth in the balloting.
Others receiving votes were Joe Horlen and Wilbur Wood of Chicago and Mike Cuellar of Baltimore.
