Singer Named National League Cy Young Award Winner
Bill Singer of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been named the Joy in Mudville National League Cy Young Award winner.
The 26-year-old right-hander edged out Gary Nolan of the Cincinnati Reds for the honor.
Singer complied a 28-13 record with a 2.85 ERA in 43 starts. He struck out 275 batters in 356.2 innings.
The left-handed Nolan was 25-10 with a 2.52 ERA.
Singer's teammate Don Sutton and Pittsburgh right-hander Dock Ellis tied for third.
Philadelphia's Dick Selma, Houston's Larry Dierker and Los Angeles' Sandy Vance all tied for fifth.
Others receiving votes were Pat Dobson and Don Gullett of Cincinnati.
