All right. The only other suggestion I've seen documented that had any effect (that doesn't mean I'll quit looking on your behalf) was to defrag the hard drive and run whatever program you have to check for disk errors, i.e. Scandisk, PerfectDisk...
Personally, I'm not optimistic that's the answer. But we won't give up on a 20yr old league. That's just wrong.

Edit: Do you recall what phase it's in when stalling? Is there a name or part that's said to be loading?
