What gives???

I finished my AA season first in the division... but I am NOT in the playoffs!!! Instead it's the 2nd and 4th place teams in my division and the 1st and 2nd place teams in the other division. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE???

I just started playing OOTP a couple months ago. I'm playing in the manager career mode. My owner said my goal for the season was to make the playoffs. I was so excited to win the division, and now this. UGH.

can anyone tell me what's going on?
