Ok, folks. I'm the commish that Jason is talking about. Yes, I suspended league activities for my leagues for a couple of reasons.
#1: Our league had one of our owners called up to active duty and sent to the middle east for this war.
#2: I have another owner who is serving in the Air Force working 18 hour days. His team is actually in the BALL playoffs and he has not had time to submit lineups. Should I penalize him and sim with his lineup changes because he's working so hard for our country at this time?
#3: I don't buy the argument about not letting the "terrorist" disrupt our lives. When I hear this, you would think that people spend hours a day doing OOTP. I'm not letting the "terrorists win" by suspending league activities a few days. I still go to work, I still go to church, I still spend time with my wife and son. I still do most everything I normally do. My life isn't being disrupted by not playing a GAME for a few days.
One other commissioner that I have the highest regard for, Ken Church, of the iMLB, also suspended iMLB with one week left in the season and my team having a one game lead in the division and trying to get into the playoffs. But, when he emailed that iMLB would suspend activities until after the war, I fully supported that. There are a million other things more important than playing a game. Saying that suspending a game is allowing terrorists to disrupt our lives is going a bit too far.
I asked the owners of my league to pray for our troops, our President and our nation. And when I sent out my email to the league that I would be suspending activities, I got one email that disagreed with my decision, one! I'm sorry that Jason feels this way and we will have to agree to disagree. But I feel that in this time in our countries history, we need to elevate what is more important in our lives, like family, friends and our nation, that worry about playing a game.
You can disagree and many of you do. But I along with Ken Church and SimSportsWorld feel differently and I feel we made the right decisions for our leagues.
