Albuquerque Journal
March 6, 2011
The signing of a 30 year old catcher to a minor league contract is usually not that big of a deal. However, when that player is the first player an organization ever signs to a contract it is.
The Regulators held a press conference stating Japanese catcher Hisashi Kawata was inked to a minor league contract last night.
Kawata a career .270 hitter with over 750 AB’s in Japan is expected to compete for a starting position during Spring Training.
“I’m extremely excited and happy to be with Albuquerque and want to be a good team member” Kawata said through his interpreter.
