Toronto Blue Jays Fire GM - Ryan Stewart to Take Over

November 21st, 2007

The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that they have fired General Manager Claudio Vargas and replaced him with 26 year old Ryan Stewart. After another dissapointing season that saw the Blue Jays go 82-80 and finish in 4th place in the American League East and miss the playoffs for the 4th consecutive year Blue Jays Owner Ted Rogers decided it was time for a change. "We have been looking at shaking things up for a while. the team has falled into a funk where we just can't get over the hump and contend. We think Ryan is very capable GM and he has the ownership groups full support to take this team in his direction"

New GM Ryan Stewart talked about his plan for the future of the Blue Jays "Right now my first goal is to evaluate our current roster, coaching and scouting staffs and minor league system to see what we have to work with. Then we can decide what kind of direction we want to go. I think we have a good core group of players here and with the addition of one or two more pieces we could contend for the AL East title. My goal is to have us in the Playoffs in the next 2-5 years"

With everything going on surrounding the Toronto Blue Jays it could be a very busy offseason.
