A double by Conigliaro then a home run by Bressoud opened the scoring of the Red Sox's home opener as they won 8-0 behind the pitching of Earl Wilson. Wilson went eight innings, striking out eight batters, and was named player of the game.

Tony C continued his hot hitting as he went 2-4, with a walk, from the leadoff spot with a double and a home run, his first of the season and of his career. Conigliaro is now hitting .583 (7-12), with 1 home run and 2 RBIs.
