Jays - Orioles Agree to Trade

March 3rd, 2013.

Toronto Blue Jays GM Ryan Stewart announced that the Blue Jays have traded AAA LF Rickey O'Esmund and 2B Christian Aragon to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for MR Tekle-Giorgis Badu, RF Stan Pierce and SP Manny Guzman.

Players Going to Baltimore:

LF Rickey O'Esmund (27 years old, 3rd Round Pick in 2008)
2B Christian Aragon (22 years old, Signed as a Non-Drafted Free agent in 2008)

Players Coming to Toronto:

MR Tekle-Giorgis Badu (37 years old, 2-9 6.45 ERA in 2012 with Baltimore)
RF Stan Pierce (20 years old, 2nd round pick in 2012, .323 5 HR 17 RBI with Freemont Short Season A)
SP Manny Guzman (21 years old, 2nd round pick in 2011, 3-2 2.89 ERA with Freemont Short Season A)

GM Ryan Stewart on the Trade "Baltimore approached us about the possibility of aquiring Rickey O'Esmund and we managed to work out this deal. We get a veteran MR who will get a chance to compete for one of the open roster spots with the Jays and 2 young prospects that could help us down the road. We really didn't have to give up that much O'Esmund was blocked by a group of talented young outfielders and at 27 was going to have to clear waivers to be sent back down to AAA Syracuse and 2B Christian Aragon was going to be nothing more than a backup"
