Blue Jays Lose 2 Key Players to Free Agency

November 19th, 2012.

Free Agents filed today all all across the Major Leagues teams were notified by players of their intent to test the free agent market. No where was this felt more than in Toronto where the Blue Jays lost 2 key cogs in their offensive wheel. 1B Nathan Wilder and 2B Stan Elliott could not be resigned and were let go.

GM Ryan Stewart on losing the right side of his infield "It hurts us no doubt. but we are already at a payroll of $104,000,000 and our budget is $108,000,000 so we didn't have enough room to bring them back. They were both demmanding huge pay increases and we just were not able to accomodate them. We are going to have to look elsewhere to fill these holes for next year"

With the Jays so close to their budget it is unlikely that they will be in the market for a big name free agent so filling the positions will likely come via a trade or come from within the organization.

The Blue Jays also allowed MR Al Clark, MR Manual Villalobos, CF Dusty Witt and LF Marcos Rosario walk as free agents.

What ever happens in the offseason the Toronto Blue Jays team that takes the field in April will be a much different one team that won the World Series last season.
