Washington Pushes Jays to 7 Games But Jays Capture 3rd World Series Title

World Series Game #1

Recap:
SP Andy Simmons gave up 5 runs in the 7th inning and gave up 7 runs total on 11 hits as the Nationals shelled him, taking the loss in game 1. Washington SP Arthur Bell was better going 8 innings allowing 5 runs and 9 hits while striking out 7 for the victory.

World Series Game #2

Toronto scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning on doubles by 1B Nathan Wilder, 3B Dave Chambers and C Hugh Edwards. DH Nick Cooper added a 2 run single in the inning to cap it off and tie the game at 4. The Jays scored the winning run in the 5th inning on an RBI triple by 3B Dave Chambers as Toronto evens the series at 1. SP Raul Ruiz went 5.1 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 earned runs with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts for the victory. CL Steve Perkins pitched a scoreless 9th inning with 2 strikeouts for his 3rd save of the postseason.

Recap:
Texas scored the first run of the game in the 6th inning on an RBI double by LF Mark Roberts. Toronto responded in the 7th on a solo homerun by LF Felipe Montero. The game remained tied until the 10th inning when 1B Nathan Wilder walked and was sacrificed to second by 3B Dave Chambers. SS Richard Evans came up with one out and Wilder on second. He delivered a big RBI Double to give the Jays the victory. SP Christian Jacobs was supurb going 8 innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run, walked 1 and struckout 7. CL Steve Perkins pitched 2 innings of no-hit baseball strikingout 3 for the victory.

World Series Game #4

Recap:
Washington opened the scoring in the 2nd inning on a 2 out RBI double by C Jeffery Moyer. Toronto responded in the 3rd inning with CF Vitantonio Ardinghi contributing an RBI double to tie the game at 2. The Jays and Nationals each scored runs in the 6th inning and after 9 the game was still tied at 2. The score remained 2-2 until the top of the 16th inning when with 1B Nathan Wilder and 3B Dave Chambers on 2nd and 3rd 2B Nathan Elliott tripled into the right field corner to bring home the go ahead runs. SP Bill Arkell pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 1 BB and 5 strikeouts. The Jays used 7 different pitchers during this marathon affair.

World Series Game #5

Recap:
Everyone looked a little tired after the 16 inning affair yesterday and it showed as Washington took the lead in the 5th inning on a 2 RBI double by 1B Bill Schroder putting them ahead 3-2. The Jays could not muster any type of comeback and got only a single hit after the 5th inning. SP Kiminobu Hashimoto went 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 earned runs while walking 2 and strikingout 7. SP Michael Rodriguez was lights out as the 24 year old went 8 innings allowing just the 2 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6. His performace gave the Nationals the win and keeps their playoff hopes alive.

World Series Game #6

Recap:
Washington came out swinging and scored 6 earned runs on SP Raul Ruiz in 4 innings of work. Ruiz was bombed for 7 hits and 6 earned runs he walked 4 and struckout 2. SP Cody Philips was as good as SP Michael Rodriguez was last night going 7 innings and allowed only 3 earned runs on 6 hits. LF M. Roberts was the hero for Washington going 3-4 at the plate with a homerun and driving in 5 to help the Nationals tie the series and force a game 7 back in Toronto.

World Series Game #7

Recap:
The Toronto bats finally woke up after taking the last 2 games off. C Hugh Edwards homered and drove in 3 runs and CF Vitantonio Ardinghi went 3-4 and drove in 3 runs as the Jays scored 7 times in the 5th inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead. SP Bill Arkell stopped the bleeding for the Jays and went 7.2 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs. He did not walk anyone and struckout 6. CL Steve Perkins pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings strikingout 2 to finish off the Nationals in front of a capacity crowd at Rogers Center in Toronto, as the Jays captured their 3rd consecutive World Series Title.

GM Ryan Stewart commented on the feat after the game in the locker room "It is a great feeling, but you really have to respect the Washington Nationals they played very hard and with that young pitching staff (The average age is 25) they will be contenders for a long time. As for us we are going to celebrate tonight and then there will be a parade in the next few days and then it is back to business. We have a lot of loose ends to tie up before we get into next season"

Some of the Jays "loose ends" include 1B Nathan Wilder and 2B Stan Elliott both of whom do not have contracts for next year and are eligable to be come free agents if Toronto cannot resigh them.
