Major League Rosters Expand: Jays Call Up 6 Players

September 1st, 2012.

The major league rosters expanded today and Blue Jays GM Ryan Stewart announced that they have recalled 6 players from AAA Syracuse for September. The Callups this year are:

SP Antonio Perez - 21-2 2.73 ERA (with AAA Syracuse)
CL Joseph Wilson - 3-2 14 SV 3.58 ERA (with AAA Syracuse)
3B Paul Wood - .279 6 HR 83 RBI (with AAA Syracuse)
2B Lorenzo Vazquez - .330 4 HR 51 RBI (with AAA Syracuse)
CF Rick Bjork - .337 32 HR 135 RBI (with AAA Syracuse)
1B Javier Gomez - .277 22 HR 114 RBI (with AAA Syracuse)

GM Ryan Stewart on the callups "Well since we already clinched the division we really want to get a look at a couple of young players. We are especially interrested in 1B Javier Gomez and 2B Lorenzo Vazquez. If we cannot get deals done with 2B Stan Elliott and 1B Nathan Wilder they are our top prospects at those positions to fill the spots and if we don't go outside the organization they will get the bulk of the playing time next season. Let me reiterate that we are still in negotiations with both players to bring them back for next year and have made no decisions as of yet"
