Jays Cruise Through Last Month of Season Finish With Best Record in Baseball
October 3rd 2011.
The Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up their 5th consecutive American League East title today defeating the New York Yankees at home 7-0. September callup SP Antonio Perez went the distance on an 11 hit shutout. The win closes out the months of September and the regular season as the Jays finish with a record of 132-30. They ran away with the division besting the 2nd Place Baltimore Orioles by 43 games and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays by 58 games. It marks the 3rd straight year that the Jays have had the best Regular Season record in baseball.
The Blue Jays will begin their attempt to repeat as World Series Champions against the Chicago White Sox at home in Rogers Center. The Jays will be without a number of regulars including MR Al Clarke and rookie sensation LF Felipe Montero who both missed the majority of the Month of September. Clarke has a chance to pitch in the post-season if the Jays can make it back to the World Series but Montero is likely done for the season. It gives two rookies a chance to compete in their first post seasons. CF Rick Bjork and CL Claudio Vargas will both be on the post season roster and Bjork will likely be the Jays starting LF.
