Off Field Injury Sidelines Clarke

September 23rd 2011.

The Blue Jays will be without the services of MR Al Clarke for awhile. He suffered back spasms recently. He reportedly injurd it while attempting but missing a high-five with a teammate. The Jays reliever will be on the shelf for 5-6 weeks. This season Clarke has appeared in 46 games saving 2. His record stands at 5-4 and he has 74 K in 77.1 IP with a 2.69 ERA.

GM Ryan Stewart said that "CL Claudio Vargas will stay with the team after the regular season ends and will fill Clarke's spot in the bullpen" The 24 year old Vargas would have been returned to AAA Syracuse when the regular season ended but will get a chance to pitch in the post season now.
