Blue Jays - Edwards Talking Extension?

June 1st, 2011.

The Toronto Blue Jays are rumoured to be in talks with 29 year old C Hugh Edwards. The Jays catcher signed a 4 year $39,240,000 contract with the Jays in December 2007 after leaving the Philedelphia Phillies as a free agent. The contract that Edwards wants is rumoured to be in the 4 year $70,000,000 range paying him around $17,000,000 per season which is an $8,000,000 raise from his current salary. GM Ryan Stewart was asked about the possibility of an extension for Edwards "Absolutely we are going to be talking to him about a contract extension. When we traded C Lloyd Matthews in the offseason we decided that we were going to go with Edwards as our #1 guy. Now I cannot comment on the length of contract or the amount of money but I can say that we are definately in talks right now and hope to have this hammered out by the Allstar Break"

The Jays catcher is hitting .304 with 7 HR and 27 RBIs in 2011.
