Blue Jays Add to Lead Now 17 Games Up in AL East

June 1st, 2011.

The Toronto Blue Jays finished the month of may with another great record of 23-5 bringing their overall record to 44-9. They have also extended their lead on the Baltimore Orioles to 17 games and they lead the 3rd place New York Yankees by 21 games in the American League East. Once Again the story of the month was great pitching followed up by great hitting. 4 of the 5 Jays starters posted winning records in April with the only one who struggled being SP Bill Arkell who went 1-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 5 games. GM Ryan Stewart on his starter "Well it looks like his mechanics are a litte off. He is dropping his arm slot and it is causing his ball to flatten out and it is getting hit. He has been working closely with Martin Martinez and it looks like they may ave corrected the problem. He did pitch 8 innings in his last start of the month and got the win over Tampa Bay so it looks like he may have turned the corner"

Notable Blue Jays Performances:

SP Kiminobu Hashimoto - 6-0 1.84 ERA
SP Christian Jacobs - 5-1 1.14 ERA
SP Raul Ruiz - 4-0 0.96 ERA
SP Jose Robles - 5-0 1.35 ERA
CL Steve Perkins - 1-0 8 SV 1.74 ERA

LF Felipe Montero - .352 7 HR 17 RBI
CF Vitantonio Ardinghi - .343 5 HR 16 RBI
C Hugh Edwards - .293 2 HR 14 RBI
