Spring Training Starts! Regular Season Around the Corner

March 3rd, 2010.

The Toronto Blue Jays flocked to their Dunedin Spring Training complex today as the Jays begin preparations for their defence of their World Series title won a few short months ago. Two familiar faces will not be making the trip to Dunedin witht he Jays this season MR Millard Carter who left as a free agent still has not been signed and RF Raul Pagan was traded to the Chicago Cubs in the offseason. Their departure opens up 2 roster spots and gives a number of the Jays youngsters a chance to earn a roster spot with the Blue Jays ths season. GM Ryan Stewart on the start of camp "it is always an exciting time of year, everyone is fresh and ready to go and you get a clean slate. Everyone has a chance to win the world series in Spring Training" He also commented on the likely players to fill the spots left by Pagan and Carter "Well right now we don't know for sure. We have a bunch of young players who have a very good chance but it will depend on how they erform in the spring. Like last year we have every intention of brining the best team to Toronto so righ now it is anyones guess"

There are a number of young jays players who received an invitation to spring traning this season and have legitimate shots at making the big club this year. They include:

3B Dave Chambers (Toronto's 1st round pick in 2007)
1B Bill Darby (Signed as a Non-drafted FA from Canada in 2008)
SP Anthony Simmons (Aquired from Chicago (A) in 2009)
SP Antonio Perez (Toronto's 3rd Round Pick in 2007)
MR Julius Perez (Aquired from Boston in an Offseason Trade)
LF Felipe Monteau (Signed as a Non-drafted FA from the Dominican Republic in 2008)
