Jays Best in Majors, Will Face Rangers in ALDS

October 5th, 2009.

The Toronto Blue Jays capped off a spectacular Regular season today with a 8-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins at home at Rogers Center. Rookie SP Antonio Perez got the start so the jays could rest their top starters in preperation for the American League Division Series. Perez went 5 innings giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 4 in his Major League debut. Perez got the start for the Blue Jays Ace SP Christian Jacobs who is scheduled to pitch game 1 of the ALDS.

The Blue Jays also send back all 4 of their September callups to AAA Syracuse but CL Steve Perkins and RF Alonso Martinez made big impressions on Jays GM Ryan Stewart "Perkins went 3-1 with 9 saves and a 1.76 ERA in the month of September for us and Manager Tomas Vega even slotted him into the closers position. RF Alonso Martinez had a .236 batting average with 1 HR and 7 RBI but had gotten off to a slow start, he went 1 for his first 14 but had 6 hits in 18 at bats to finish off the season. I expect big things from both of these players next season"

The Blue Jays (110-52) will face the Texas Rangers who won the American League Wild Card with a record of 92-70. In the other American League Series the Minnesota Twins (95-67) will face the Seattle Mariners (99-63) who are making their 3rd consecutive poast season appearance and are trying to repeat as World Series Champs. In the National League the Cincinnati Reds (97-65) will face the NL Wild Card winning Atlanta Braves (88-74) who are trying to avenge a 7 game loss to the Mariners in last years Fall Classic. The Philedelphia Phillies (91-71) will face the Arizona Diamondbacks (89-73) in the other National League Division Series.
