Jays Sign 18 Year Old Mexican 1B

November 29th, 2008.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that they have signed 1B Javier Gomez as a non drafted free agent out of Mexico. The 18 Year old was discovered by Toronto's Mexican Scout Bob Dawson. When asked about the first Baseman Dawson said "he is one of the best raw power hitters I think I have ever seen. I think he could hit 40 HR in the majors eventually" The 18 year old will be assigned to Toronto's extended Spring Training Program in Dunedin and will likely join the Pulaski Blue Jays of the Appalachian Rookie Leage.
