Blue Jays Claim C From Florida

June 15th, 2007.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that they have completed a waiver claim for 20 year old catcher Nick Cooper from the Florida Marlins. Cooper has spent the majority of the season with Florida's AAA affiliate in Iowa. Where he hit .254 with 7 HR and 30 RBI in 53 games. Cooper is an excellent defensive catcher and should contribute some with the bat. He is hot expected to be a Number 1 catcher in the majors but provides a Toronto Organization that has very little youth in their system with another young player that could contribute down the road. At only 20 years old it is suprising that Florida would give up on him so quickly.
