1933 Amateur Draft
No huge surprise as Lefty Grove was the first player chosen (though the Giants did give a loooong thought to taking Stan Musial with that initial choice). The Reds also chose a pitcher, tapping Johnny Allen with their choice, and leaving the best position player in the draft, the aforementioned Musial, to fall to the White Sox at #3 - an absolute steal for the South Siders.
The Athletics grabbed "Sir" Hugh Duffy, another tremendously talented OFer with shortstops Joe Sewell and Jim Fregosi going fourth and fifth respectively.
No real sleepers in this draft as the talent thinned out considerably beyond the top eight or so players. After the top two picks were spent on pitchers, on two of the remaining fourteen first-rounders were used on pitching with Monk Dubiel going 8th to the Tigers and the Yankees using their pick (14th overall) on reliever Randy Myers in a surprising pick.
