Anyway, it's just not why I watch the game. I get no thrill from seeing a guy skate 5 strides and hit a guy who has no idea it's coming. I hate how this crap overshadows the ridiculous level of skill that's on the ice in every NHL game.

Oh no, there is no doubt it was a charge. I actually learnt through Tootoo's hit that there is no written rule to determine how many strides is a charge. I, along with many others, thought it was three strides, but there is no total in the rulebook for this which is kinda odd.
On a related note - There are a few players each year who skate around with their heads down so when did they stop teaching this?! This was the one of the first things I was ever told and I'm in the UK so it must be in My First Book in Canada
And another thing. What is the purpose of padding? Protection, right? So why do players need shoulder pads that could probably stop a bullet??
