The Sox and A.J. Pierzynski have signed a deal that will prevent him from poisoning the atmosphere in anybody else's clubhouse through 2010:

The contract through 2008 will remain the same ($5.85 million), and he'll get $6.25 million in 2009 and 2010.
On the whole, I have no problem with this. Pierzynski's certainly not the greatest defensive catcher in the world, but (with the exception of half a season of Charles Johnson in 2001) he's easily the best catcher the Sox have had since Carlton Fisk. That is, unfortunately, not as much of an edorsement of Pierzynski as an idictment of all the other crappy catchers the Sox have trotted out there. Yes, Officer Ron Karkovice, I'm talking about you, too.
