August 1st - Things are finally starting to stratify in the standings for this bracket, and the news isn't too good for Jays fans:
1954 Giants 61-46
1931 Yankees 59-48
1901 Superbas 58-49
1942 Yankees 57-50
1992 Blue Jays 53-54
1980 Dodgers 50-57
1932 Senators 45-62
1956 Indians 45-62
As the New York teams pulled to the top of the standings, Willie Mays is making a serious Triple Crown bid. His 25 homers tower over the rest of the bracket (Babe Ruth is now second with 15), he leads comfortably in RBIs with 90 (Joe Gordon of the '42 Yanks is second with 78), and he is a mere two points behind batting leader Roberto Alomar, .380-.378. While Toronto and the Dodgers still have some hope of making the next round, they are going to have to get it together quickly if they are to avoid elimination.
