Interesting Post. It would be pretty cool to have it all and maybe someday that will happen.
My preference at this point would be for the developers to continue to focus on improving the game as a GM simulation. Lets get to the point where there is near perfection in terms of the reality of being a GM before any time is spent making the in-game action more enjoyable. Thats just my feeling in terms of where the priorities should be at this time.
You mentioned balks in your post. They are possible in ootp 7 and seem to occur with a pretty realistic frequency. There are not any 'balk ratings' at this time however. Im not sure if some pitchers are more predisposed to balking than others, or if it really just a flukey thing.
You also brought up the ability to argue with the umpire. I can recall in prior versions having that option...it pretty much always led to being thrown out of the game. Though it did feel nice to vent during times of frustration i didnt find that it added much to the game play experience. Im not sure why it was removed from this version, though its not a feature that I miss.
I do agree with you that it would add a touch of realism if pitchers were warned and eventually tossed (as well as the manager) for HBP. Sometimes when I need to intentionally walk a guy i just hit him with the first pitch to save pitches and hopefully injure their player (awful I know...). I wouldnt be able to practice such methods of brutality if they started tossing me for it.
