Uncompressed, the history pages for my league are currently ~60MB (17 seasons, twenty teams, three levels of minors).

Are you uploading the files individually, or as an archive? The files overwrite fine for my league, but we upload them as an archive, so OOTP isn't directly involved in the extracting/overwriting process.
