Twelve intense crowd-pleasing rounds for the fans. Diaz had more left in the 12th, dominated the round and needed it to to secure the decision on the judge's cards. Outstanding fight with great sustained intensity. Didn't want to see it end. Glad I wasn't trying to score this one either. It was a joy to watch and a meomory I'll cherish.
The War for Four was aptly named.

Chavez Jr. faced a game but outclassed Louis Brown. Dianzo vs. Lopez was as turgidly boring as Morales vs. Diaz was exciting. Mayol vs. Solis Jr. in aflyweight trinnket bout. Solis finished off a combination with a devestating overhand hand right to the button. Mayol hit the canvas so fast I thought he'd been vaporized. A really impressive ko.

On the unseen undercard Bernabe Concepcion looked sharp and classy stopping Gabriel Elizondo. Elizondo was dropped, got up had no legs and wobbled back down and the ref stopped it. He was game and upset about the stoppage but I didn't disagree with it. He'd taken some shots and could have been hurt. This duke was for the NABF super bantam belt. Now I don't understand how Concepcion could have fought for it since he's from the Philippines, but I'm not an alphabet guy.

A crowd pleasing local prospect, Donavan "Da Bomb" George stoppped Shay Mosely in super-middleweight action. George is part of the Cestus Boxing team and entered the ring wearing a Roman helmet. Does a back flip when wins and gives the crowd a good show. A strong local middleweight prospect, Michael Walker looked good stopping Dante Craig. I've seen both of these kids fight prelims before at Cicero stadium and their careers seem to be progressing to pre-prime.

Two less impressive undercard decison bouts took place. Victor Polyakov, a Ukranian relocated in Chicago decisioned Jesse Orta. Polyakov looked like a typical European fighter. Mercito Gesta decisioned Carlos Madrid in a super featherweight tilt. Since there were some quick stoppages in the undercard a scheduled 4 rounder with heavyweights Joey Abell and Mike Sheppard. Abell threw a looping, pawing left hand and appeared to make minimal contact with Sheppard who flopped for the count. I've had the misfortune of seeing Sheppard try to fight once before on the Diaz-Favela undercard and he needs a new career plan.
