Try again cubedum - I've been as honest and clear since my first days on this forum regarding Holyfield (especially in terms of juding him, as well as others, in their "primes", not when they are clearly FAR past their best days).
I've long said Holyfield's reflexes, skills, etc where on the decline since way back in early 97 Vs Vaughn Bean (it was more then obvious there). It was likewise obvious Vs M. Moorer in their rematch bout (which Holy won by TKO) but you could still see he was struggling to put punches together like he had in the past....and to keep the pressure up -
As for his shot now at the WBO. Without a doubt I will be pulling for him! The notion that this fight doesn't make sense and all that.....That is just BS. The WBO champ gets an optional defense...and of course Holyfield makes sense for him - Money wise -
Just as Ali made sense for Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick. The list of all time greats getting "one more shot" at a world title goes throughout the history of boxing (it is nothing new).
The notion that Holyfield should have to work his way back through the ranks taking on top contenders before another title shot (while I understand the sentiment) in reality it isn't all that reasonable. Past champions put in their sweat equity on their way up the first time (certainly Holyfield did).....Their bodies can't take those same tests again from multiple fights in order to get back there...
So they typically get a title shot (not by becoming a #1 mandatory) but through the optional defense - Agian, I could list dozens and doznes of examples.....So it is nothing new.
As for this fight - Clearly Ibragimov has to be the heavy favorite - Likely by Dec or a late stoppage by corner -
With that said, I'll give old Commander Vander a shot within the first 6 rounds , if Ibragimov gets brave and wants to stand and slug......You know Old Evander is more than willing to fall on his shield fighting....if it means he has a chance to land his shots too.....
