"Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay from Texas for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, minor league shortstop Elvis Andrus and two minor league pitchers.
Baseball America rates Saltalamacchia and Andrus as the Braves' top two prospects in their organization.
The Fort-Worth Star Telegram, citing a Rangers source, is reporting that the two pitchers Texas will receive are 19-year-old right-hander Nestali Feliz and another pitcher to be determined.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the other pitcher involved in the trade is left-handed pitching prospect Matt Harrison, ranked by Baseball America as the third-best prospect in the Braves' organization."
Seems like a decent haul for the future HOF first baseman. Feliz has put up some good numbers in rookie ball. Have no idea what the scouts think of him. Harrison is much higher rated than what his numbers would indicate.
Having three quality young catchers in the system---Saltalamacchia, Taylor Teagarden, and Max Ramirez---along with teenage SS Elvis Andrus is exciting stuff. Especially, if Andrus shows a lot of progress at the plate.
Teixeira is almost as good in the field as he is at the plate. Braves fans are gonna grow to love Mark, especially if Atlanta gets the re-sign done quickly.
