We have arrived at the end of May and the Boston Red Stockings sit atop the standings, but are being hotly pursued by the Mutuals and Athletics.

Notes: Boston pitcher Al Spalding became the first pitcher to reach 100 career wins in Association history. Mutuals pitcher Len Lovett surprisingly leads the in ERA at 1.43 and has a 9-2 record. Cal McVey has 33 hits and 20 RBI, both Association bests.
