I've never heard "Management offered 10 million/4 years, then the player and his agent, deeply offended by management's lack of psychic ability, stormed out of the room chanting "Had your chance, had your chance!"

I wouldn't mind seeing the player come back with a counter offer, but I don't think it's right for the player to let his demands be known initially every time.
