Sims fought a long career that saw him fight a good share of what you might call the middle talent of the LHW division throughout the late 50's on through the 60's. It was a mixed bag of results until in 1965 through 71 he fought some pretty good names in the lHW along with a couple well know heavyweights that he just could not match up with as he lost his last 14 career bouts. You could hurt Sims apparently by looking at the 16 times he was stopped in a fight. His one real time in the spotlight sort of was his fight with heavyweight Jimmy Ellis on November 14th, 1966 at the Houston Astrodome as part of the undercard to the Ali/Cleveland Williams Heavyweight title fight. Sims light didn't shine very long though as he was KO'd at 2:38 of the first round by future WBA heavyweight title holder.

Sims started out his career 12-3-1,with 6Ko's fighting the locals around California. Then sometime in September/October 1957 he moved to the Houston, Texas area and it was around parts of Texas where he staged primarily the remainder of his career over the next 14 years. Through 1964 he won fights against, Eloy Tellez(20-18-0,10), HW Ponce DeLeon(9-26-4,5), Tommy Ramirez(14-10-1,8), Sonney Moore, Alvin Williams, HW Wayne Womochil(18-11-3,10), MW Harold Redman(20-14-1,10), Abe Davis, Benny Lee Bowser, Billy Marsh, Elmo Henderson, George Price(16-6-2,7) and Jimmy Boyde(9-7-2,8). The losses mounted against the better looking tallent, Dean C. Bogany(27-9-4,9), George Price, Donnie Fleeman four times, Sonny Moore(whom he also fought a win and draw with), Fred Lewis, Buddy Turman twice, Billy Daniels, Benny Lee Bowser(for the Texas State LHW title in september 1962), he also fought a 10 round draw with Bowser in October 1963, and future Light Middleweight Champion Freddie Little in August 1963.

After a 10 round decision win over HW Jimmy Boyde in November 1964, Sims career nosedived the rest of the way as he tried without success to take on some of the better light heavys of the day. A 6 round decision loss to Middleweight Georgie Johnson(59-21-0,30) in January 1965 was the start of 14 loss skid over the remainder of his career. Following Johnson were losses to Jack Rodgers, twice in a row to Karl Zurheide, Billy Gray in London England( what took Sims out of the US the one and only time in his career to London England?), Ron Marsh, Jimmy Ellis, Mark Tessman, Zurheide again, Leroy Portalis(4-2-0,1), aging HW Zora Folley, Brian Kelly in December 1970 after a 20 month layoff after the 1st round KO loss to Folley, then in February and March 1971 Sims career came to a close with a 6 round decision loss to HW Eddie Land(6-16-0,3) and HW Gary Hobo Wiler(12-21-2,10).
