There was two phases to Elmo's career, 1954-67 as a Light Heavy compiling a 20-13-1,14KO record. Then after a 3-1/2 year layoff, from 1971-72 and one fight in 1975 and two again in 1979 he fought in the Heavy ranks going 5-5-1,1KO.

Fought twice in 1954 winning one then loosing by 4th round KO to LHW Alvin Green(23-9-3,5). Fought and lost once in 1955. His record in boxrec continues in 1957 winning three fights that year. In 1958 he's knocked out twice by welterweight Bill Sudduth(44-14-4,19) and looses an 8 round decision to future welterweight champion Curtis Cokes. There's another 3 year gap before one fight, a 1st round KO of LHW Eloy Tellez(20-18-0,10) in Sept 1961. Henderson then fights fairly regular from mid 1962 through 1965. Wins twice and looses once in three straight fights with LHW Ray Martin(110-8-1,5), looses by 2nd round KO to Benny Lee Bowser in 1962. In 1963 he's KO'd by LHW Tommy Sims(35-36-4,12). In March, April and June 1964 he wins three straight fights over Billy Marsh, Alonzo Harris and Marsh again, then in September that year knocks out HW John Peters(6-5-0,1). That sets Henderson up for a late November 1964 fight against Benny Lee Bowser for the Texas State LHW title. Henderson wins by knocking out Bowser in the 2nd round. After a couple of easy wins in early/mid 1965, Henderson and Bowser fight a rematch for the Texas title in October 1965. This time Bowser wins a 10 round split decision. We then do not see Henderson again till February 1967.

In February 67, Henderson makes another comeback after an extended layoff winning a decision over Terry Lee(15-20-5,4) and then knocking out Pete Peterson(5-7-1,3) in April. Those fights are followed by 10 round decision losses to Chuck Leslie and Charley Austin(39-43-6,7). Two weeks after loosing the decision to Austin, in late August , Henderson pulls an upset of sorts as he knocks out promising LHW Bob Dunlop who is 24-3-0 at the time. This upset takes place in Auckland, New Zealand, the first of three times Henderson fights outside his native United States. Four months later in December 1967 Henderson and Dunlop fight a rematch in Sydney, Australia. This time in front of a reported crowd of 9000, Dunlop knocks out Henderson in the 4th round.

Henderson then hangs the gloves up again for about 3-1/2 years until 1971. Over the next 7 years he fights on and off, winning a couple fights in 1971 against Willis Earls(12-15-2,7) and against Manuel Ramos in Mexico. Thats followed with losses to Leroy Caldwell and WW Jorge Rosales(27-14-3,19). The remainder of 1971 and then early 1972, Henderson won decisions over Clarence Boone, Frank Niblett and MW Carl Moore(18-32-5,5) while getting KO'd in 4 by Earnie Shavers. Henderson's career was finished with a 3rd round KO to Ibar Arrington in October 1975 adn a 5th round KO to Pinklon Thomas and 4 round Technical draw in April 1979.

The first file is the LHW version, the 2nd the HW version.
