HR KC: Mike Fiore (9)
The
Royals quickly sprinted out to a 2-0 lead behind a 2-run homer from
Mike Fiore in the first. In the third,
Ellie Rodriguez was hit by pitch that forced in a run and
Tom Tresh, who extended his hit streak to 11 games, capped the KC scoring with a 2 rbi single.
The
Red Sox scored once in the fourth on a
Reggie Smith rbi single, but that was the only run allowed by Royals starter
Mike Hedlund. The ninth inning got a little exciting as reliever
Galen Cisco wobbled, allowing 2 runs to
Boston, before finally recording the final out.
POG Kansas Citys Mike Hedlund 8 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 84 pitches
I was surprised when skip told me to stay in the dugout, answered
Mike Hedlund when asked about not coming out to pitch the ninth. I still felt pretty strong and its not like I was pitching in trouble very much today. We got the win, though, and thats what matters.
We got the win no thanks to me, replied
Galen Cisco afterwards. Just couldnt quite feel right on that mound today. I dont know if it was the mound or me, but I just wasnt real comfortable out there.
