ROYALS TRADE

We made a big trade today, sending Corey Koskie to the Dodgers for Nomar Garciaparra, reliever Jonathan Broxton, third baseman Wilson Betemit, and a couple C-list prospects. I know Nomar is making a lot of money, but we’re right at budget for this season now, and we’ll cut some more once we get rid of Perez. The fans loved the fact that we got Nomar and Broxton.

To make room for the new acquisitions, we sent down Chad Allen and reliever Todd Wellemeyer. We’ll put Betemit at short until German comes back, then probably DH him. Nomar obviously fills our glaring need at first, and Broxton becomes our new closer.

Game #102 – New York (A) (M. Mussina 14-4, 3.92 ERA) at Kansas City (J. Bale 5-7, 6.41 ERA)
New York (A) 4
Kansas City 2
W: M. Mussina (15-4) L: J. Bale (5-8) S: M. Rivera (33)
HR – NYA: J. Damon (16)

We gave up 3 runs in the top of the first, and never did mount much of a threat. Nomar went 1-4 in his first game in KC, and Betemit had an….interesting…line. He went 0-0 with a run, RBI, and 3 walks. Johnny Damon went 3-4 with a home run, a run scored, and 3 RBIs for the Yankees.
