ROYALS EXTENSION
We signed catcher John Vanden Berg to a minor league extension.
TRADE PROPOSAL
The Devil Rays have offered us 29-year-old first baseman Carlos Pena for 21-year-old minor league starting pitcher Luis Cota. I need to keep all the pitching prospects I can, so I turned it down, even though we could use a first baseman. Besides, I’m not sure Pena is the answer at first base.

Greinke actually didn’t pitch too bad. He went 8.1 innings and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks and struck out 4. We had a 3-2 lead going into the 8th, when A-Rod hit a single and scored on an Abreu triple. After Matsui lined out to first, Abreu scored on a Cano base hit for the game winner.
In injury news, we will be without Esteban German for 1-2 weeks after he strained his hamstring.
