Started out with two, 4 round decisions over Cassius Clay Scott in late 1965. Burns won 12 more straight between 1966 and 1968. Included wins were over Bobby Dennard, hal Carroll, Gene Romero(10-9-0,5), Benny Lee Bowser, Johnny Alford, Vernon Clay twice, Willis Earls(12-15-2,7) twice, Roy Wallace and AJ Staples(11-7-0,9). The streak ended with two straight 10 round decisions dropped to Willie Burton in March and April 1969. Over the rest of 1969 and 1970 he won 7 of 8 fights with wins over Leroy Caldwell twice, Willie McMillan twice and Sonny Moore. The lone loss was to Willis Earls.
1971 and 72 saw a downturn in Burns career as he finished his career with only a 2-4-1 record. The wins came against Ray Anderson and Eddie Jones while he lost to MW Georgie Johnson(59-21-0,30KO), Len Hutchins, Jimmy Dupree in August 1971 for the NABF LHW title and his career finished in October 1972 with a 1st round KO loss to Frank Evans(12-32-1,9).
