Roger amongst all the teams in your league are most turning a profit ? Is there alot of extra cash floating around ? The AI(players) generally know(s) how much extra money is out there to be had and base their demands around that

This is true, most of the teams are in negative financial situations at least 75% of them....but still a 2 yr. $1.5 million dollar expectation? For someone who is currently making 14 mil a year?

I've seen star performers request small salaries, but usually they've had a ratings hit, and don't perform well the next year. Darkphoenix- do you have scouts on? If they're off, you can see his true ratings- perhaps he's getting worse quickly. For your team's sake, I hope that's not the case...

Good god, I hope not...he is only 30 years old and I have yet to see anyone deteriorate before they hit 35.....I do have scouts on...but my head scout has above 17 in all areas...plus based on the guys stats and all my scouts agreeing I should have to say that the guy is still Cy Young quality material....that and in 1 month and 1/2 worth's of starts he is like 4-1 with an era well below 3.00 in an american league setting....somewhere around 2.50 I believe.....I hope not either...but if that is the case I would just have to relegate him to the bullpen if he gets too bad......I have some decent prospects and have turned a profit every year even if it meant trading away players I could have used to stay in the green and out of the red. I just don't think an asking price for a Cy Young candidate, MVP etc. should ever be this low...and even if the guy did take a hit in stats "he" "should not be aware of this" and should still demand money comparable to what he got paid last. Example....Clemens is getting paid 28 million prorated (not worth even close to that by my reckoning) for less than one year and this has to be one of the biggest gambles by any team in baseball history lol. Also, I had one of my sluggers who was making 11 Million in his last year demand 16 million in the same year as this pitcher, and he was coming off a down year where he went from hitting .320 and 50+ home runs with 136 rbi's down to .252 28 home runs and around 100 rbi's.

I do agree that salary requests should be based on past performance solely and not on ratings....a player should never have an inkling as to how they may or may not perform the following year. For my sake I hope he doesn't tank at 30 years old. I just felt it would be really taking advantage of some poor AI to resign him for 5 years at a total contract of around 5 million......
